THIS WEEK ON INSIDE THE WRITER'S CAFE (week # 1014): GRATITUDE AND LIFE CHANGE.
Alphatudes: The Alphabet of Gratitude by Michele Wahlder and What Matters Most: Living A More Considered Life by Dr. James Hollis.

These are two wonderful self-help books.

Written by professional Life Coach Michele Wahlder, Alphatudes illustrates how gratitude and the ABC’s can help us live a more stress-free life. This is a really lovely book. I especially enjoyed the illustrations that go along with each letter of the alphabet. Michele has taken the simple idea of the ABC's and assigned a quality to each letter. It's a great idea and one you can use in many ways in your daily life. Starting each day off reading a new letter of the alphabet from this book is one way to start your day with positive thoughts.

In What Matters Most, Dr. James Hollis urges the the reader to explore their own minds and hearts to discover a path to personal fulfillment. The book is filled with stories and great ideas for self-exploration.

Sunday, March 21
Snow? In March? Yes, absolutely. It snowed last night and the bushes and trees look like they have white frosting on them. Texas weather during the month of March is always unpredictable, but this is really wild... it was 70 degrees on Friday, then snowed Saturday night.

ATTENTION JANE AUSTEN FANS! I have a couple of ideas for shows involving the work of Jane Austen. Her unfinished novel, SANDITON, has been completed by Juliete Shapiro. I am curious and would like to interview Ms. Shaprio on my internet radio show INSIDE THE WRITER'S CAFE, about her courageous choice to "finish" the unfinished manuscript of someone who has such a strong following.

I also found an intriguing book, 33 GREAT WRITERS ON WHY WE READ JANE AUSTEN edited by Susannah Carson. I am planning to read the book and try to interview Susan Carson about the book and the writers whose opinions are represented in the book on my internet radio show INSIDE THE WRITER'S CAFE.

Here is an intriguing idea I found in one of the catalogs. It seems for a fee, you can write yourself and your friends into the Jane Austen novel, PRIDE AND PREJUDICE. I can't wait to get the info.

INSIDE THE WRITER’S CAFÉ THIS WEEK (show#1013) : MURDER WITH A TWIST.
Through The Heart by Kate Morgenroth and The 13th Hour by Richard Doetsch.
In Through The Heart rich boy meets poor girl, falls in love, a seemingly a happy ever after ending, except for the dead body. In The 13th Hour Nick Quinn is accused of brutally murdering his wife, but is given a chance to save her by going back in time.

I have been getting so many great books, I am having trouble choosing the ones I use for author interviews on my internet radio show INSIDE THE WRITER'S CAFE.

I just interviewed Susan Zeidler. She's such an accomplished woman. Not only is she an author with a new book, THE PRACTICE ROOM, but she is also a journalist and playwright. That's the fun of doing what I do. I get to talk to the most interesting people. Her book is really written for a teen audience, 12-15 year-olds, but it is well written and kept my interest. Look for her interview on INSIDE THE WRITER'S CAFE.

I am reading FRAMED! by John Dobbyn. From the first sentence, he had me. His style of writing just drew me in. The novel is set in Boston and he makes references to the sports teams. I am a Boston Celtic fan from way back. This novel is about a Cosa Nostra don whose son is framed for murder. I am only about 100 pages in and I am really enjoying the book. His interview will be coming up on INSIDE THE WRITER'S CAFE.

I am looking at the following books as possible interviews:

LIES OF THE HEART by Michelle Boyajian
THE MAPPING OF LOVE AND DEATH by Jacqueline Winspear
BARBARY PIRATES by William Detrich
THE BONE THIEF by Jefferson Bass
MOM by Dave Isay
THE DOCTOR AND THE DIVA by Adrienne McDonnell
DAISY MORNING, NOON, AND NIGHT a cookbook by Daisy Martinez
THE FALLEN by Mark Terry
NO GOOD DEED by Lewis M. Cohen
CYBERKILL by Frank F. Fiore

Just to mention a few! So far this Spring there is an embarrassment of riches in terms of books being published! Watch for my Spring Recommended Book List out soon.

THIS WEEK ON INSIDE THE WRITER'S CAFE 3/15 (Show #1012): PRESIDENTIAL SECRETS.

"The Imperial Cruise" by James Brady and "Clinton’s Secret Wars" by Richard Sale. The Imperial Cruise traces the 1905 diplomatic mission President Theodore Roosevelt sent to Hawaii, the Philippines, China and Korea. Clinton’s Secret Wars details behind-the-scenes events and accounts that shaped President Bill Clinton’s foreign policy agenda.

Wow! things have been so busy I haven't had time to turn around much less update this blog! It's a good thing though, as Martha Steward would say. So many new books have been coming in. I can't wait to share them with you on the radio show. Upcoming interviews include:

  • ALPHATUDES by Michele Wahlder Self-help
  • THE HEIGHTS by Peter Hedges Slice-of-Life Fiction
  • FRAMED! By John Dobbyn Mystery
  • MOTHERHOOD IS MURDER by Diana Orgain Mystery
  • WHAT MATTERS MOST By James Hollis Self-help
  • 13th HOUR Mystery with a twist!
  • FROM THE HEART by Kate Morganroth Mystery with a twist!
  • THE PRACTICE ROOM by Susan Zedler
Just to name a few! Interviews are scheduled with all of these authors on INSIDE THE WRITER'S CAFE.

I also had such fun on the two TV shows I host. I interviewed chef Daisy Martinez for her new cookbook DAISY MORNING, NOON AND NIGHT. If you live in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, I hope you get to see the interview. Not only is Daisy a wonderful cook, but she is a delightful human being. I can't tell you how much fun we had doing the two shows. The cookbook is a feast not only for the stomach, but also for the eyes. I hope to schedule her for an interview on the radio show.

This weeks show features two non-fiction books about Presidential secrets. I interviewed James Brady about his controversial and fascinating book IMPERIAL CRUISE and the delightful, articulate and intelligent Richard Sale about his insider book CLINTON'S SECRET WARS. These are two really intense and insightful books will make you think!
